extractions
Whenever possible, we want to preserve tooth material. However, there are situations where the tooth simply cannot be saved. In these cases, we perform an extraction.
when are extractions necessary?
Some extractions are a natural part of growing up. For instance, many people need to get their wisdom teeth removed. However, extractions can also be necessary due to severe cases of:
- Decay
- Trauma
- Disease
Some of these incidents are difficult to avoid (e.g., traumatic injury), but others can be prevented with regular oral care. We encourage patients to come to our office at least twice a year for cleanings since this gives us the chance to address bacteria that home care tools are unable to reach.
If you’re experiencing tooth pain, visit our office. We’ll be able to examine the issue and determine which form of treatment can relieve the discomfort while preserving your oral health.
what happens after an extraction?
Once your tooth has been extracted, we’ll need to replace it. Missing teeth can lead to a variety of different problems, including:
- Difficulty eating
- difficulty speaking
- gum disease
- additional tooth loss
- bite problems
We’ll sit down with you to determine which form of restoration is best suited to your needs.
