Cleaning
Brushing and flossing are essential for taking care of your mouth, but you also need to go to the dentist regularly to get professional cleanings. This is because the tools we use allow us to address bacteria that home care routines simply can’t.
how often should you get your teeth cleaned?
Patients should get their teeth cleaned at least twice a year, but the following risk factors may increase the number of cleanings you need:
- Tooth Decay
- Gum Disease
- Diabetes
- Smoking
- Inadequate Home Care
If you’re unsure how often you need to get your teeth cleaned, visit our office. We’ll be able to examine your current oral health and then schedule your next dental appointment.
What to expect during a cleaning
At the start of the appointment, we’ll examine your mouth to ensure that everything is in order. This allows us to catch problems early, which in turn makes them easier to address.
Once the examination is finished, we’ll remove the plaque and tartar from your mouth. We’ll also brush your teeth with gritty toothpaste, floss them, and give you liquid with which to rinse your mouth.
We may recommend additional treatment, depending on your current oral health. For instance, patients with gum disease may require scaling and root planing.
